POLL: Fairfax Nielson Poll: 7 November 2008

The Fairfax Nielson Poll for 7 November 2008 puts National well into the lead with a similar margin to last months poll.

Today's Fairfax-Nielsen poll shows National has opened up an 18-point lead - 49 per cent support compared with Labour's 31 per cent - and a last-minute surge in support for ACT would put John Key in a position to pick his new Cabinet.

Labour leader Helen Clark has thumbed her nose at the poll findings - but two other polls last night also show National in a position to govern.

Miss Clark, who is hitting the shopping malls and factory floors in a frantic last-minute push to shore up the key South Auckland vote, issued yesterday her plea to voters: "I'm saying this is one for the true believers. If people want a Labour-led government, they'll get out and vote for it." more

The Colmar Brunton and TNS TV3 polls out yesterday gave the Nats a 12 and 13 point lead so voters should probably see those two polls as more accurate.

As I remarked in a poll yesterday though this doesn't take into effect the feeling for a change sweeping across the nation.

POLL: TV3 TNS Poll 6 November 2008

The latest TV3 TNS poll for November 6 2008 shows a collapse of Labour support, from over 37% in the last TNS poll to 33% in today's poll.

National is up almost one percent to 46.

Labour's vote collapses to just over 33. It is being punished for president Mike Williams’ failed trip to Melbourne to dig up dirt on John Key.

The Greens are coasting at 9 percent - the highest ever result in a 3 News poll.

New Zealand First is on 3.4 percent – and facing oblivion on Saturday.

ACT has received a last minute boost - 2.8 - that would see Roger Douglas in parliament.

The Maori Party is on 2.7 – and is expected to win at least four seats - most likely five.

Jim Anderton's Progressives and United Future's Peter Dunne are off the pace - but will win their seats.

In parliament, 62 seats are needed to govern - National has 59, ACT four, and Peter Dunne one - that's 64 and John Key is running the country.

Across in opposition, Labour has just 42 seats, the Greens 12, Jim Anderton one - add in the Maori Party -  and even then they fail to govern, with 59 seats. More

Today's TV One Colmar Brunton poll has a similar lead to National-just differing by 1 point- but with slightly different figures.

TV3 has been the odd one out in polls wildly swinging so its similarity with the Colmar poll confirms the trend of a healthy lead for National.

There will be 3 more polls out tomorrow. Fairfax Nielson, NZ Herald Digipoll and Roy Morgan.

POLL: TV One Colmar Brunton Poll, 6 November 2008

The latest Colmar Brunton TV One poll for November 6 2008 still has National significantly ahead of Labour-the same margin as the previous Colmar Brunton poll

On the all important party vote, National is steady on 47%. Labour is holding firm too, but is 12 points behind on 35%.

The Greens have continued their strong run, up one point to 9% while Act has also had a late burst, now up to 2.5%.

New Zealand First looks dead in the water at 2.4%, and the party vote for the Maori Party has fallen away to 1.3%.

With a 122 seat parliament, (needing 62 seats to get a majority), who could form a government on these latest poll results?

Labour would have 43 seats, the Greens are on Labour's side with 12, the Progressives have one seat, but even if you add in the Maori Party's probable four seats, Clark can only muster 60 seats - two seats short of the majority which is required to govern. More

To me this poll is conservative in its lead for National as it doesn't take the "mood of the nation" into account. That mood is for change and it is apparent everywhere you go.

The accuracy of the Colmar poll is confirmed by the TV3 TNS poll out today.

John Key would have to be found sleeping with his sister to lose on November 8.

Labour's political dogma killing 83 year old

I don't usually watch Close-Up on TV One because my wife watches Shortland St on the other channel but I saw a segment that I had to choke back tears-of rage and sympathy.

It was a story about our crumbling hospital system:

83 year old Gordon Sutherland fears he'll die on a hospital waiting list. Gordon has skin cancer. He has tumours on his nose, and last month another one appeared on his jaw. Doctors have told him he urgently needs an operation. Yesterday he was about to go into surgery - an entire surgical team was waiting - but at the last minute the operation was cancelled because of a lack of beds at Auckland Hospital. That's the third operation they've cancelled on Gordon in a matter of weeks, and all the time his tumours are growing, threatening his eyesight and his very life. Gordon feels like the system's letting him down - potentially killing him. TVNZ

Gordon was a fighter pilot in his day, and a working man who paid his taxes but he cant get what he deserves, immediate care in a public hospital for his cancer.

Why is this happening?

Labour has increased the health budget by billions over the last nine years but most of it has gone into bureaucrats-more than one for every hospital bed-and a wasteful hospital system of multiple layers of moronic managers and useless pen pushers.

New Zealanders could have more operations if we used our underutilised private health assets but because those compassionate people in the Labour Party think the public system is the only way to go, they have put the health of Kiwis on the back burner and people like Gordon Sutherland are suffering as a result.

So it is more important for Labour to stick to a political dogma than save a mans life?

Well the answer is a big fat sad yes.

The thing that made me particularly bitter was that the Health Minister David Cunliffe refused to appear to give his excuses.

Shame, not good Karma come election day.

Leaker linked to Labour Party

After Whaleoil and Kiwiblog initially broke the story of who the leaker of "secret tapes" to Duncan Garner was, Granny Herald finally gets n the case.

That of course is the real story here because the contents of the tapes have not amounted to more than a hill of beans and have mostly bitten Labour on the backside.

The individual who made and leaked the tapes to Duncan "Dunkin Donut" Garner is Kees Keizer (real name?) and he was found to have links with the taxpayer funded Labour Party Blog, The Standard, although the Herald reported that Keizer said he wasn't a member of the Labour Party but was identified by Cameron Slater as being a member of Young Labour, the radical shit stirring wing of the mother party.

He said while he had friends and connections in the Labour, including those on the Labour-affiliated website The Standard, he also had friends in National too.

The Standard is the website where a blogger calling himself Batman posted about John Key's supposed links H-Fee. That blogger is believed to be a senior official, most likely party president Mike Williams, although he has denied it was him. more

Previous denials by Labour Party officials at The Standard that they had been involved in either of the two leaks have now been blown apart and the true purpose of the blog is very clear.

Denials by Keizer that he has connections to the Labour Party and that he is merely a free political spirit wandering in the breeze defy the facts of the matter.

Keizer has been duplicitous and secretive and there have also been questions over the tapes validity.

They have been heavily edited by Kiezer and we all know when that is done conversations can become meaningless and in this case highly suspect.

It is just more of the same gutter politics from the left.

Nice Helen vs Evil Helen

Tonight's final TV One leaders debate went to John Key, he stamped his authority over the whole process, was natural and comfortable and just did the business.

On the other hand Helen Clark looked more uncomfortable than she has in any of the 3 TV debates.

She had been "Ms Nasty" in the last two debates, but after the two pointless smears by her and Labour on National this week backfired she has been told by advisers to be  "Nice Helen".

It didn't work though.

She tried to be personable, tell funny anecdotes-John Key does this well and is natural- to make herself look more human but she didn't look comfortable being someone she is not.

At one point when you could see the "sucking lemons" face come after a question John Key answered well, she answered in the uncharacteristic "nice" way and her upper lip did an Elvis twitch as the two Helen's fought for control.

The fact is that she is a corrosive, partisan, bitter individual who is more comfortable with conflict and going from Cruella Deville to Mary Poppins just doest suit her. Kiwis can see right through it.

Swinging voters will not be persuaded by her half-baked Hollywood this evening.

FULL VIDEO: Barack Obama Victory Speech November 4th 2008

Barack Obama's victory today in the 2008 US Presidential Election was a good one, fought hard and fair and fought for the democratic rights of all Americans, no matter what political colour they are.

John McCain put up good opposition but just couldn't do it against fierce opposition from political foes and the media.

Its now time to bury the platitudes, the vacuous empty speeches filled with meaningless trite slogans and get on with actually going something.

Lets hope today's promises are not broken by tomorrows realities.

KiwiRail value derailed

I had to get this billboard photo from Whaleoil because I couldn't find it on any Labour Party affiliated website.

Perhaps they are embarrassed.

They should be.

The accounts reveal the value of KiwiRail has been slashed $242 million, more than a third, since the Government bought the business from Australian firm Toll in July for $690 million.

The "fair value" of KiwiRail is now $448 million, a loss of about $56 for every New Zealander.

KiwiRail is a key plank in Labour's election billboards, which include Kiwibank and KiwiSaver. "Keep it Kiwi, vote Labour" the billboards sayMore

Today we find out that the Crown accounts show the "value" of KiwiRail have dropped by almost a quarter of a billion dollars since Cullen bought it just a few month ago.

This brings KiwiRails value down to just $448 million. Not bad going in just two months.

Of course Treasury puts the value of KiwiRail at alot less than that.

$125 million is their true value of Mikey's wee train set.

Duncan Donut

Duncan Garner reiterates his journalistic integrity today over releasing "secret tapes" supplied to him by Labour Party insiders:

3 News political reporter Duncan Garner says "it is not 3 News’ job to censor the news".

“If we didn't report it we would be failing in our duty…all 3 News can do is broadcast the material and be as balanced and as careful about it as possible,” he said. TV3.co.nz

Its a shame he forgot another essential journalistic rule, it ain't 3 News job to manufacture news either, its their job to simply report it.

Balanced? a chip on both of "the Donut's" shoulders is the truth of the matter.

http://www.decision08.co.nz/portals/0/images/site/election/bloggers/duncan_garner.jpg
It isnt easy to tell the difference
between Duncan Garner and a
high calorie,low nutritional value
Dunkin Donut.

*Duncan Garner is henceforth to be called Duncan Donut by this blog because Duncan has a hole in the middle where his journalistic intergrity should be and donuts make you fat, like Duncan.

c Political Animal 2008

Helen, it went off in my hand

The girls and boys from Labour and their official blog The Standard have just done the equivalent of climaxing before getting anywhere near the hole but in their case using both hands to self loathe, because they cant find a partner, when they released their "Whopper" election killer to Duncan Garner and TV3 today.

But wait, hold the mayo!

Labours filth digging has revealed a secret tape of Bill English simply giving his views on nutty Socialist Barack Obama:

I’m a bit worried about this whole Obama and Europe thing, just because there’s a limited effectiveness in being moralistic about international relations… and the US you can argue over do it - Bush should have put a different window dressing on it but there still needs to be someone willing to pull the trigger. Bill English

I lifted the quote above from The Standard because I couldn't find it anywhere else and they had been telegraphing their intentions to release the tape for some time so I knew where to look.

Apparently there are more premature ejaculatory gems like this one to come but Labours desperation just seems to dig an even bigger hole for them, that their sticky little fingers will not be able to dig themselves out of before election day.

Urggh, what a mess Labour have on their hands.

Wandering in the breeze with Helen

"...I am a free spirit..."

I just about swallowed my tongue when Helen Clark said this in tonight's Key vs Clark debate, which Key won.

Of course New Zealanders know that while Clark might be a self described "free spirit" , most would not describe her in that way in the true sense of what a "free spirit" is.

In Clark's mind that means she is free do do what she want to you to impinge upon your freedoms but to most of us the words free spirit mean more of a reciprocal relationship between yourself and others.

No Jacket required

Showing how farcical and badly written Labours Electoral Finance Act truly is:

Act leader Rodney Hide's canary-yellow jacket has fallen foul of the Electoral Finance Act.

The Electoral Commission wrote to Mr Hide yesterday, saying that under the act the jacket might be an "election advertisement" and therefore required an authorising statement.

Mr Hide said the move showed the absurdity of the act and the Labour-led Government that passed it.

"They have state agents investigating an MP's jacket. They will be checking my underpants next. More

Sure it is a horrible little jacket, paid for by Hide, and it cost too much, but this breaks electoral law when Labours $60,000 taxpayer funded book sent out to the oldies a few weeks back doesn't?

Dont vote Labour because: Labours support of Winston Peters

A series of advertising messages urging you not to vote Labour this Saturday 8 November.

Don't vote Labour because of Helen Clark's support of Winston Peters.

Clark has supported Peters for political reasons rather than for moral or legal reasons.

Peters acceptance of money from Owen Glenn, the Vela family, Bob Jones and who knows who else and his lies surrounding these donations make no difference to our Helen.

Recent new facts have uncovered money for policy and yet Helen remains unmoved.

Peters is a corrupt, lying bastard of a man and Helen sees nothing wrong with that.

If it means Labour stays in power, she and her party will do it. She will use his support if she needs him again after November 8.

Clarks drops another lie in debate

In the TV3 Leaders debate between John Key and Helen Clark tonight, Helen Clark lied about the shower restrictions that Shane Jones was going to introduce in February 2009.

She said nothing of the sort was being, or had been contemplated but we all know there was a Labour working party doing research on it and it is a fact that it was going to be introduced next year.

Labour dropped back when there was the logical public outcry so close to a general election and they then considered relaxing shower head flow from 6 litres a minute to 9.

If elected Labour will introduce this law and many other nanny state laws like it. It has been par for the course for the last  9 years and simply would be out of character for Labour to change their ways.

LIVE BLOG: TV3 John Key vs Helen Clark debate

John Key has started the TV3 leaders debate in the same way as he began the TV One debate two weeks ago.

He has stamped his authority on it right from the get-go and is close to getting under Clark's skin.

She was the first to interrupt the other speaker when experience over the economy was broached and when Labours poor history on management of the economy was discussed by Key.

Key has so far scored points on the economy, education and now John Campbell  has broached the subject of trust with Helen Clark, she looks uncomfortable.

She gets nasty and she says she doesn't trust Key.

Clark is tittering in the background when not on question and rolling her eyeballs, Key looks like he owns the room.

The question of the racist entrenchment of the Maori seats, which are incidentally impossible to entrench, has been put to Clark and she has fudged and refused to directly answer the question as she has over the last 2 days.

Clark has been asked about the length of her leadership and whether people have gotten sick of her and she has answered the question well but is tending to drift off question now. She says she has more to do.

Key has been asked about his "inexperience" and says that doesn't stand in his way but says it is an advantage rather than a dis-advantage.

He brought out the "Inga the Winger" card and managed to gazump Clark's previous rambling answer.

Key's knowledge of his subjects is shining through clearly now and Clark's political history is letting her down, as in the TV One debate a few weeks back.

The issue of the nanny State interfering has been put to John Key and the question of the Anti Smacking Bill and Key's management of the bill to make it less punitive has been handled well.

Clark's nanny State as a whole has been critiqued and Clark looks bad.

"I am a free spirit", a quote from Clark has given me the biggest bitter laugh that I have had for a long time.

Clark is laughing at Key bringing up the issue of light bulbs, food police, restricted showers, etc, etc.

Clark lies and says there is was no proposal to bring in shower restrictions, when Shane Jones was going to bring it in February 2009 but it was shelved because of public outrage.

Key looks like he has gotten under her skin and she now has that sucking lemons look on her face, the one she gets when she is backed into a corner.

On a "grand coalition" both pollies say they couldn't get together and I and most would have to agree.

On Winston Peters going with Clark, Clark sidesteps the question on whether she will go with him. Waffles without answering.

With Key and his coalition partners he has been emphatic that he will not go with Winnie and has won this question hands down.

Clark finished the debate with interruptions and hysterical hand waving. Key was calm, got his point across firmly with constant interruption from Clark and John Campbell-he constantly interrupted both speakers, especially Key.

Key won the second leaders debate with skill and a firm presence. Clark lost the debate because she waffled, had little positive data to back her up and kept interrupting and giggling while the other speaker was answering questions.

Key 8.5 , Clark 4.5 out of 10.

John gets Pacific backing in Labour's turf

The fact that Inga the Winger and Iceman Jones are publicly backing John Key, in the very centre of Labours turf should not be lost on Helen Clark, Labour and its supporters.

Their reasons for the endorsement are based on their spiritual values, and their belief that the National Party could take Pacific people in a forward direction, the pair said today.

"We don't want our people just working in factories", said Tuigamala. "We want them starting to own those factories." They criticised Labour, saying they had undermined the moral values of Pacific people by decriminalising prostitution and allowing civil unions. More

All Black legends Michael Jones and Inga <span class=

Yesterday other public personalities came out to support Key. Lifetime Labour voters Graham Lowe and Bevan Docherty yesterday came out to back Key as their man and endorse him as a way forward.

It is great to see young Pacific voters putting aside their Labour Party "histories", to be inspired by a party and a man that will suit them better for the future.

Labour think they "own" these people and in a way they do. Many are struggling on the welfare which Labour have them dependant on. I think they are slowly realising that being independent rather than dependant is the way forward.

It makes me feel proud just thinking about it.

Good on ya John.

Sky City quarter results good by half

My reasons for praising Sky City Entertainment [SKC.NZ] management a few months back have been vindicated.

The most recent quarters results have been mildly pleasing, given the recession New Zealand has been operating under for most of 2008 and the associated drain on revenue from lower discretionary spending.

That has had an affect on New Zealand casino operations and especially the Auckland casino, currently the company's main profit driver and revenue earner.

It is difficult to be hard on the Auckland casino result because current economic conditions make like for like comparisons hard but the 2% revenue drop is reasonably acceptable to this shareholder.

Much more encouraging however are the quarters results from Australia.

Given that the Adelaide casino have recently introduced a smoking ban, its flat revenue results are very pleasing to me.

When introduced in New Zealand, revenues were crimped by more than 5% and the previous strong revenue growth up to that point stopped when the smoking bans were introduced .

I have banged on strongly about Sky City's Darwin casino and it has delivered the goods to the tune of a 7% rise in revenue for the latest quarter. A spectacular rise, but shareholders should note it could be pegged back with recent falls in commodity prices, the booming mining industry the main reason behind the historical revenue increases.

Long-term that should settle back into strong growth though and I pick the Darwin casino to be the main revenue earner within 5 years.

A good buy when it was purchased off MGM Grand, and I was one of the only positive commentators about that purchase at the time.

You have been told!

Nigel Morrison's appointment at the beginning of this financial year turned out to be a turning point for the company and his decisions so far have paid off. The next year- as it will be for most New Zealand companies-will be the true test of his management abilities. He needs to balance possible revenue slowdowns with increasing business costs and that will not be easy as gamblers put their purses away.

Once again the recent quarters results have found Sky City Cinemas results disappointing and things are likely to get worse over the next twelve months.

Sky City shares were up 10c on the news in an overall positive market.

Dont vote Labour because: Anti Smacking Law

A series of advertising messages urging you not to vote Labour this Saturday 8 November.

Just a gentle reminder before the election on Saturday that Helen Clark and her Labour Government passed the Anti Smacking law, removing the right for parents to discipline their children and then when a petition forced a referendum for the coming election she refused to allow one lest voters were reminded of her nanny state ways.

The law had no affect on child beatings and killings but innocent parents have been questioned by police and there have been arrests for light smacks.

Worth considering before wasting your two ticks on her.

POLL: Colmar Brunton Tauranga Poll-November 2, 2008

Winston Peters looks set to get voted into political oblivion if the latest TV One Colmar Brunton Political poll for Tauranga is anything to go by.

National Party newcomer Simon Bridges looks set to comfortably take the seat at next Saturday's election.

The poll shows Bridges has climbed to 54%, up six points since the last poll in August, while Peters is stagnant on 28%.

Larry Baldock from the Kiwi Party is next on 7%, up from 4%.

Support for Labour's Anne Pankhursts has dived to 5%, a third of what she polled in August

More

The Tauranga seat is indicative for the election outcome and things don't look good for Labour either. Support for their candidate is way down to around 5% of the vote.

A big win for National is likely based on this local polling result.

Drowning Clark grasping at Maori straws

Desperate stuff from the Prime Minister today.

Knowing that Winston Peters may not return come election day, she has now latched on to the Maori Party.

To people she once described as "haters and wreckers" and "the last cab off the rank" Clark will now flip flop again on Labour Party policy by entrenching the Maori seats.

"Its not our policy" in an answer to a Gyon Espiner question before the 2005 Election to entrenchment in 2008.

Maori voters should be well warned that this is nothing but a political move. She has had 9 years to move on this and just as her head is about to slip into the waters of political oblivion she now loves Maoris again.

Shameful desperate politics.

National set for a landslide win

1I conducted this informal survey over the last 2 weeks ending Friday 31 October 2008.

I am going to put my finger up in the air and pick a landslide win for the National Party come November 8.

They will get enough seats to govern alone.

How do I know this?

Well, I happen to mix in pretty diverse political circles in the business that I operate and I have a large number of acquaintances as well.

The informal polling that I have done-conversational interrogation- tells me that even die-hard Labour voters are sick of Helen Clark, her party and her curious ways.

THE number one reason people give for wanting a change-not as in the Hollywood falseness of an Obama change-is Clark's meddling in their lives.

They say they are sick of being told what to do and the number one interference mentioned is the anti smacking bill and there is a long list of other nanny finger pointing stuff mentioned-right up to the shower head restrictions.

The second reason for people turning their backs on "Helen" is her penchant for ignoring basic democracy. This is highlighted first and foremost by the anti free speech Electoral Finance Act, the refusal by Clark to allow a referendum against the anti smacking bill on election day, the dumping of the Privy Council and the ramming through of the Emissions Trading Tax Bill earlier this year.

Just this last week people seem to be concerned that she used the race card when commenting on facts brought to light by Lockwood Smith about issues faced by employers when dealing with recent immigrants-most of my correspondents thought she and the media were making something out of nothing.

In fact the "overplaying" of nothing issues to score political points by labeling her prey as racist or intolerant is strong on most voters lists of reasons not to vote Labour.

Just this last week the dirt digging that she and her party have done using taxpayer money to smear John Key has backfired in a big way and these moves by Labour towards bitter and gutter politics have put my correspondents off her.

The focus by Helen Clark on personality rather than policy and the distrust people feel about her over issues of donations, her support of a corrupt Winston Peters, her meddling in Kiwi lives, and her lies to cover up her involvement in political scandals are high on the agenda of my circle of pollsters but another issue high on the agenda is the faltering economy and Labours part in that.

Basically they have seen the economy managed into a recession at the hands of Labour under great economic conditions, and now that outside global economic circumstances look bad people are worrying that Micheal Cullen is the wrong man to manage us through it.

Overwhelmingly,  they think a person with in depth financial experience would be perfect for the current economic climate and see John Key as the man to manage the economy so as to make life easier for the average working New Zealander for the next 3 years.

"His time has come", remarked on individual.

Well, there you have it, my prediction of a landslide to National for the 2008 election, based on a wide variety of people interrogated personally by my good self.

The electorate is sick to the eyeballs with our Prime Minister, even die hard Labour voters think so.

The swing against Labour is huge, even by loyal supporters and I would concur with my correspondents that National will win comfortably come November 2008.

Nice going but October has seen an almost triple in visitor numbers to the site and I suspect that is because of the coming election.

Only six more sleeps!

Thanks for reading.
