The Warehouse: The Solution; Sell Sell Sell !!

Part The Warehouse team on the lawn at their head office in Akoranga Drive.
They needn't have 1200 working there though. 200 would be sufficient.

The Warehouse Group Ltd [WHS.NZX] was last visited on February 20th when it was trading at $2.64c.

I sold 4900 shares on Friday March 10 for a loss of about $2000 at a consideration of $12020. I kept 100 just for fun and to cause trouble if I want - it could sell one day.

While a teeny tiny part of my portfolio, it kind of stuck in my craw a little bit. Having that Sword of Damocles hanging over me when I knew I should have walked away from it about 3-4 years ago.

Ill leave the woe is me I lost money on this one behind cause I left that particular kind of thing behind on Feb 6 2012 - except to say this money is destined for lawyers again because my Ex wife is being rather nasty with our child - should have followed my passion into the law cause my current lawyer has now got a vast amount of my money.

Never fear.

Anyway.

What sort of psycho babble keeps a person holding onto a share when they know they should have sold some years ago?

I think it is fear. Fear that you made a mistake buying it in the first place. Fear that you held on for too long and fear that you finally have to crystallize your loses making it feel somehow real.

I don't feel that now though. I just feel relived. Relived that I have preserved some capital and I could pursue other purchases with it - briefly AIA shares although might sort of wait a bit to see if it will go lower.

Yeah, I think relief from the constant niggle in the back of my head that really should be rid of that little monster the WHS.

I will give them 2 years.

If they havent cleaned out head office of 800 folk and gotten rid of the hundred of lines of useless junk taking up space on their shelves - who the hell sells DVD'S these days - then they will be confined to history.

Avoid at any cost.

POT: Is it Worth Getting Back In?

Port of Tauranga is an interesting share. Interesting because I once owned it about 10 years ago and extremely interesting considering I would have made HEAPS on my initial investment of around 8000 shares - roughly 5x considering I sold at around 5 bucks - that 5x figure doesn't even include dividends.

Never mind. You live, you learn.

What I want to know is, is it worth getting back in?

As we speak its trading at $4.25 - not cheap considering other more deserving companies but it is cheap if you look out 3-5 years from now.

Its the largest container terminal in NZ and is well on the way to becoming the biggest terminal in the country, grabbing more and more tonnage off Ports of Auckland.

The terminal at their MetroPort Auckland, a rail-linked inland port in South Auckland will continue to grow at the expense of Auckland Ports as POT is more efficient and they don't have the horrible wee Trade Unions to deal with.

If you could get this share now, get it, if you see a weak spot coming up you could do well to get this under 4 bucks.

The Warehouse: Is it Time to Bow Out?

Let me begin this piece with I no longer wish to be a shareholder in The Warehouse. The exact phrase I used to start the last piece I wrote about this wayward dinosaur.

The Warehouse Group [WHS.NZ] is a sad part of this gentleman's portfolio. It hasn't lost me money , yet, and it hasn't made me any money either .

I SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN OUT A LONG TIME AGO

On 19th December 2016 I would have got out with a very small profit.

I now hold it at a small loss.

On 20th February 2017 I still hold 5000 of the little buggers but  seeing how the company is about to wring out one last drop of money from the golden goose in March - 1000 people at head office is about 800 too many for it size - I will hold on for the inevitable shares price rise then ditch the little buggers.

20.12.2016 Warehouse Announcement.

The strategy will be announced on Thursday, 9 March 2017. "At that time, we will also provide an update on progress against Group strategy, including details of actions taken to reduce the Group's cost of doing business."

Lets hope - crossing fingers and everything else - they really make some radical changes and Briscoe's The Warehouse.

I'm not sure that Nick Grayston is the right guy for it OR whether owners/customers will even allow him to do it.

I'm sure this is just the beginning of the end for the company and James Pascoe will be left to mop up whatever he doesn't own.

Good luck.

I wont be there.

Share Price Alert: Contact Energy Ltd 10

[CEN.NZX] Contact Energy had a sluggish operational report out last month but has a good one out today.

The one out this morn comes in conjunction with a half year profit that is at last starting to look good.

What ever you think of Contact as a whole company - and there are many and varied views - there is no doubt to me this company is on a turn around since Dennis Barnes came on the scene.

It now has its future 100% in the cloud and that appears to me to be good for the customer and the shareholder going forward.

Many of those account managers and associated hangers on really should go now - you will be booted out as Contact moves more and more to the cloud over the next 12 months.

All that has to happen now is that serious knuckling down from staff at head office and all around New Zealand towards what the customer wants.

Focus on the customer and the rest will take care of itself.

If your not one of those Contact Energy staff that does that, then this correspondent does not want you.

If your looking at buying get in before $5.

You wont be disappointed.
