Critics and Wannabes

Chart forFisher & Paykel Healthcare Corp Ltd (FPH.NZ)

Just wanna counter the critics and wannabes, especially the ones you find on the internet.

Your criticism should be ignored.

If you know are doing the right thing for you, it doesn't matter who you have to answer for because the only person you have to satisfy.

Is you.

On that, ill take one instance is writing on this blog and on one particular instance on Fisher and Paykel Healthcare Ltd.

I had followed this stock for YEARS, not months and if you were to take my advice, freely of course because you don't have to take my advice, i'm just freely sharing it with you on these pages, you would have made at least 4 times your money and be in the position you are now with this company of more to come.

That's not including the 60 plus cents in divs.

Looking back i even included my advice AT THE PEAK OF MY CONFUSION AND STRIFE, IN THE MIDDLE OF A STROKE

Me:

At 1.91 today this puppy must be returning about 10%. Looks like another support level to me, if I had the money id be getting in again. Beware that this might jump down again again but also be aware that that this share traded at at 1.86 today. Depends what you want if you get it now you will return you well in the long term, if you think the traders (money) have had their fill get in now,if you don't bide your time.

An Anon Critic:

Come on, FPH is a dead end. Where its gona go and on what basis? Strong yield? How much are you expecting to gain, 10c a share?

So an answer to your critics.

Don't take what you read to heart, if you know you have made the right decision.

Stick with it.

It will pay off.

It has for me.

Addendum : Where are all the commentators now, bet ya they are too scared to put their feelings down on paper less than 4 years latter ?

I'm Buying: Fisher & Paykel Healthcare Ltd

Well, as I said back in June 2011 I was being as patient as a wee church mouse and I would let you know after the fact if I was going to buy some additional Fisher & Paykel Healthcare Ltd [FPH.NZX] shares.

Well blow me down if I didn't do that just this morning when I purchased 15,000 more at $2.15 per share to add to the current 5000 holding in the Share Investor Portfolio.

As I pointed out this morning in the latest Share Price Alert the share price represented good value and is returning over 8% net on dividends alone.

The purchase was funded from dividends from the portfolio built up over 4 profit reporting periods and was earning 3.5% in a cash deposit.

I have not bought anything since buying Contact Energy Ltd [CEN.NZX] shares in July 2011 for a second shorter term portfolio Share Investor Portfolio 2.

Since the Global Financial crises hit in late 2008 there have been a number of bargains I have laid my hands on during the low period in 2009 - AIA (1,2) MFT, WHS and MHI, the aforementioned CEN and today's buy.

This has been a spend over that period of around $150,000.00 about half of it funded through dividends earned and the rest new money.

I am still waiting patiently for other good stocks to come under fire in 2012 and will let you know as and when they come on my radar.

Heres one.

For similar reasons for today's buy -  the weak US currency having an impact on repatriated profits back to NZ - the buying power for Sky Network Television Ltd [SKT.NZX] has increased putting the pay TV broadcaster at an advantage as it buys programming and hardware in US currency. It also has a weak share price for some reason and is looking like an attractive monopoly to me.

I am very pleased about my new addition today.

Share Price Alert: Fisher & Paykel Healthcare Ltd 2

Fisher & Paykel Healthcare Ltd [FPH.NZX] shares have come back onto my radar again as they closed at a price yesterday not seen since September 2011, $2.18, (see 1 year FPH chart above) and before that not seen since mid 2008. This weakness in share price has nothing to do with the performance of the company - it has record revenues - but everything to do with the weak US dollar. The aforementioned weakness the two previous times in the last six years (see 6 year FPH chart below) was also because of this currency fluctuation.

The share price was up by 5c yesterday on a massive turnover of 15 million shares as Mondrian Investment Partners Limited sold nearly 10 million shares and now has ceased to own more than 5% of FPH. Mondrian has been a substantial FPH holder (over 5% holding) since September 2010 and on the share register for longer. The company still own around 25 million shares but look like they have lost substantially on yesterdays selldown.

It looks like they are betting that the US dollar will weaken and the share price may fall further so they can buy back cheaper but there has been good support at these levels before and as a current FPH shareholder I am putting in a buy today for at least 15,000 shares.

I am guessing that ACC or some other Government related saver scheme would have taken the Mondrian stake.

At these share price levels the stock is returning 8% gross and with imputation credits you are getting twice as much than a term deposit on a quality stock that has the potential to increase its capital value substantially when the currency fluctuation goes in the company's favour.

Be patient but not for too long at these levels.

Catch the Dead Cat!

As I mentioned on Facebook yesterday after Wednesday's (NZ time - Tuesday on the DOW))deadcat bounce we are likely to see a fall on markets Thursday or Friday.

What do we have this morning on the DOW?

Well, it is down and had not been positive at all. The DOW closed down 519 points or 4.42% wiping out all of yesterday's gains and then some. This is on news that several French banks could be close to collapse.

What will happen now?

Well, tomorrow is likely to be another down day and after that all bets are off except to say markets will still be choppy and ultra-sensitive to any bad news for the next few weeks.

It is always hard to time the markets but I am looking to buy at some stage but it is just picking the right moment. I am after 10000 or so Fisher & Paykel Healthcare Ltd [FPH.NZX] shares to add to the Share Investor Portfolio and may look at other stocks if I am game.

My portfolio has been up and down (mostly down of course) like a cheap K' Rd hooker over the last 4 trading days and was down by around 10% over Monday and Tuesday after a 4% fall on Friday but up nearly 5 % yesterday. Down is the only way today.

My buy orders for FPH have mirrored the market. A first bid at $2.20, then down to $1.99, then another down to $1.80. I raised the bid to $2.15 for yesterday but will re-bid a few minutes from now back down to $1.99.

Even I am feeling the pressure and have to steal myself sometimes to remain calm and focus on fundamentals (based on business as usual with the larger financial macro theme at play of course) rather than my state of mind.

This bumpy economic ride and the consequent market volatility has more to play out yet and there will be more opportunities in the months and years ahead but the money I am using to pay for the FPH shares is getting about 2.5% in the bank and inflation is running at twice that.

Yep, greed and fear, greed and fear!

FPH is paying over 7.5% gross based on the current share price of $2.34.

Watch the market and be patient, like me....?

Global Market Sell-Off Stocks: Fisher & Paykel Healthcare Ltd

Quite frankly, and as I pointed out on Friday, the whole NZX is on sale and while people are losing money people like me are contemplating buying rather than selling. On fundamentals alone there are many NZX stocks that are looking way more attractive than they had been just 3 trading days ago.

Lets look at some specific stocks though and in the second of a new series to coincide with the current stockmarket sell-off, we will look at one of the brightest parts of the Share Investor Portfolio, Fisher & Paykel Healthcare Ltd [FPH.NZX]

The company has indicated net profit after tax to be in the range of NZ$62 million to NZ$76 million for the 2012 full year, and this is either even with the 2011 full year result or up substantially and this big swing is a result of a volatile currency - US/NZ cross rate.

Revenue in US dollars for the 2012 year. will be considerably up on the 2011 year.

During the big sell-off over the last 3 trading days the fundamentals for this stock are of course looking much better.

Lets have a look

P/E 22.660
EPS $0.102
NTA $0.592
Gross Div Yield 7.581%

Over the last week the share price has dropped from $2.55c to finish trading yesterday at $2.30, which has exacerbated the drop from mid June from around 3 bucks a share. Drops of 10% & 24% respectively. This is back down to levels not seen since January of 2009 (the last Great Global Market Sell-Off (GGMSO))but well off the early 2010 high of $3.60.

Given that the big global market sell-off probably has more legs in it -even though there has been a dead cat bounce this morning on the DOW - investors would be wise to be a little patient before they jump in. There has been historical support at these levels for FPH shares as noted above but the shares traded intra-day at $2.15 before bouncing back on a weaker NZ currency.

Keep a close watch for the desperate sellers, the unpredictability of this market and currency fluctuations means good opportunities for this stock.

If you were considering buying this stock before last weeks implosion, this week the GGMSO means you will be getting it on sale*.

*If you don't like some risk, stay at home and pat the cat instead.

Resmed takes market share from Fisher & Paykel Healthcare

I referred to a whisper about Fisher & Paykel Healthcare's [FPH.NZX] lagging share price in a late July post and the cause of it possibly coming from intense competition from Resmed Inc [RMD.ASX] and that investors in FPH would have to wait for some concrete evidence that this was happening when RMD's profit result for the 2011 full year was out.

I hate to say this as a FPH investor but I think the whisper may have some merit to it, at least over the last year.

Resmed's full year profit to 30 June 2011 reveals that it has increased revenue by around 18% and profit up by just under 20%. FPH has increased revenue by around 10% with profit up by around 2%.* in the 2011 full year result. All may not be all dire though because in the fourth quarter its respiratory and acute care (RAC )revenue grew 24% and its obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) products operating revenue grew 17%. The market for these products is clearly growing rapidly but RMD appears to have the slight edge in terms of competition between the two companies which it has added to by aggressively buying companies that it sees has products with a good fit to theirs to gain even more market share. FPH has thus far gained their market share by increasing R & D spending and growing organically.

Resmed has recently concluded a 5 year agreement with Carefusion Inc [CFN.NYSE], a company that has good breathing and sleep technology bought Biancamed, a leading OSA technology leader and on August 1 purchased Grundler GmbH, a developer of innovative medical humidification products. These medical sectors, especially the sleep technology area, are something that FPH has placed alot of faith and research and development on for its future.

Fisher & Paykel is doing well in the sectors that they operate in but their main competitor in the fast growing OSA & RAC sector appears to be going Resmed's way currently and should be a minor niggle to FPH investors. They do have a technological edge though in several newly launched products this year.

With the impact of the Global Financial Crisis 2 (GFC 2) looming and an impact on share prices it might be wise for investors to keep a watching eye on the FPH share price for opportunities.
